Update & Our First Meetup!

Hi all! This is just to say that there’s not going to be a new episode this week. We had some unfixable audio issues, unfortunately. However, we have good news! We’ll be at the opening of Balance Patch, the first social video game cafe in Boston. We’ll be there hanging out later in the afternoon, and we’d love it if we got to meet some of you guys!

No Man’s Sky: Time for a Revisit

The Hello Games team has been teasing No Man’s Sky’s 1.3 update patch since earlier this week. And today, it was released! On No Man’s Sky’s birthday, no less. The patch boasts over vehicles, improvements to in-game systems, and over thirty hours of new story content.

Overwatch Brings Back Summer Games

Last year, the Overwatch community was head-over-heels for new things to do in their favorite competitive shooter. The Summer Games, themed after the Olympics, brought new skins, emotes, voice lines, and even a new game mode to the game. This year, they return with more.

Slime Rancher – Review

Finally coming out of early access last week with its 1.0 update is Slime Rancher. I sat down with it for a long while over the last week, and I really liked it! If you’re here for the more nitty-gritty, keep reading. But if you’re just here for a solid game rec, you’re all good.

Sony Buys Out Funimation

Funimation and Sony Pictures TV have signed an agreement that would see the majority of the anime distributor bought out by Sony. Funimation’s CEO, Gen Fukunaga, will remain CEO of the company. This could mean that anime produced by Aniplex and A-1, two studios that Sony owns, as well as anime that Funimation has rights to distribute, may see more releases in the United States.

Dark Souls – The Vinyl Trilogy Announced for Fall

Bandai Namco announced the limited edition run of the set this week. The Dark Souls LPs will be available sometime this fall, as a limited edition 2000-copy run. Not only does each game get its own set of LPs, but there will be 9 total vinyl in the box set. The announcement trailer shows that Dark Souls 2 will be spread out on four vinyl, while Dark Souls and Dark Souls 3 are only on two each.

Pyre: You are the Reader

To go and play Pyre was something exciting. Here’s a band of exiles, and they value you because you know how to read. We think of it as such an innocuous thing, but in the Downside, where Pyre takes place, it’s invaluable. I won’t deny that I teared up a bit out of joy when I began the game. I’m still excited about it.

Battlegrounds Update Brings More Skins, Crates

PlayerUnknown posted a developer update on the game’s Steam page detailing new feautres coming to Battlegrounds. In the patch update, we’re expected to see bug fixes for doors, using items while reloading, and spectator mode. In addition, PlayerUnknown detailed the one thing we’re all really in it for: cosmetic items.

Overcooked Comes to Nintendo Switch

The hit cooking-frenzy game comes to the Nintendo eShop next week. Overcooked, released last year for PS4, PC, and Xbox gets a special edition package as it graces Nintendo’s newest console. The special edition includes both DLC for the game.  Overcooked will also feature support for the Switch’s HD rumble feature.

Pokemon Go Fest Goes South

Niantic planned to host a big Pokemon Go-themed bash for the game’s first birthday, but instead, the event flopped. Fans looked forward to playing the game among others who liked it. Upon attempting to participate in the festivities, fans soon found that they were unable to connect to the servers, for starters. Problems continued with frequent technical difficulties, server unresponsiveness, and shoddy excuses from Niantic themselves.

Runescape Comes to Mobile

Runescape isn’t the only classic game that received a mobile re-release in recent years. The most recent is Roller Coaster Tycoon, released late in 2016 for iOS and Android. Looking ahead, we’re still expecting Animal Crossing mobile some time in the fall.
