Grab The Booty, a game made for drinking some grog
Grab The Booty is an in-development strategy card game centered on pirate treasure. Utilizing and combining gambling and strategic aspects from various card games, Grab the Booty is also made for parties.
“It makes for a great betting or adult drinking game,” lead designer Ben Jones said about the social aspect of his game. “It’s also a great game to play at the bar.”
Jones, who is a long-time digital and tabletop designer, showcased Grab the Booty at the fifth annual Boston Festival of Indie Games. Handing out cardboard dubloons as a way to bring players in to play a quick game, Jones is confident about gaining an audience.
“This year it was all about getting the name out there,” Jones said. “I want people to experience the booty grabbing action.”
Jones’ game managed to snag the Best in Show Runner-Up at the Boston Festival of Indie Games.
How does one play Grab The Booty?
Grab The Booty can be played using two players. What is different about other card games is the short length. The game can take up to eight minutes to play at most. This is not including practice.
Two players are playing as different pirates, as evidenced by the stylish artwork found on the game. There will be a treasure amount and the two will have to find ways to split it. However, where the real cutthroat action is undercutting or sabotaging a player’s chance to gain more cash.
The game does involve a lot of betting and taking chances. Bids can be placed and certain cards can be played to interfere with a player’s chance to walk away with the most gold. The game ends when all of the gold is gone and whichever pirate has the most at the end is the winner.
Grab The Booty, coming soon to KickStarter…
Grab The Booty’s fast paced gameplay and focus on having fun will certainly draw up some potential fans. Jones wants to take the chance and start a KickStarter campaign sooner than later.
“I am looking to bring Grab The Booty to KickStarter in early 2017,” Jones said. “The more support the better.”
